Why Final Fantasy 16 Spans Multiple Decades Of Clive’s Life
For years, Square Enix and Final Fantasy XVI developer Creative Business Unit III have spoken openly about the game that spans decades of Clive Rosfield's life. It speaks to the broadness of this story. A revenge story will evolve into a tale of war, its effects on people, and ultimately Valisthea's place in the struggle between Eikons, Dominants and more over crystals.
I played a couple of FFXVI's opening hours during my cover story trip, much of which took place in the past, when Clive was just 15 and his younger brother Joshua was even younger. I learned a lot about their relationship with each other as well as with their parents, and I won't spoil anything more. I also flashed forward to a 28-year-old Clive to catch up with him, and CBUIII and Square Enix say we'll go even deeper into Clive's life, into his 30s.
It surprised me that Kazutoyo Maehiro said there weren't many challenges associated with having the game span decades of the protagonist's life.
