Exploring the Golden Age of Shmups on the Commodore Amiga
In this guide, I'm primarily targeting Shmup fans who have never used the Amiga before and are interested in exploring its features. There are some very good shmups on the Amiga that aren't available anywhere else, despite the fact that the Amiga isn't particularly known for its shmup library. In this guide, we'll discuss some of the best Amiga shoot-em-ups: games that can match the best on 16-bit consoles.

It also discusses honorable mentions, which are shmups with exceptional visuals and/or music, but lacking in gameplay. A separate section is devoted to shooters in the style of Defender, Williams' 1981 arcade classic, which represents a gameplay style rarely seen on consoles. The final section of this guide discusses Amiga shmups that were hyped at the time of release, but were not that great in retrospect.
