Retro Ggaming, Introduction to RGB
Essentially, RGB is the video output you get from classic game consoles, since the video chips inside produce RGB and then break it down into the options you're familiar with. In this way, the image becomes sharper, the colors become more defined, and the picture is much clearer overall. A good way to compare RGB to typical classic game systems (composite, RF, etc.) is like looking through a clean window versus a dirty one. There are many cases in which it makes that much of a difference.
There are RGB outputs available on almost every classic game console. Although some Europeans have always used RGB for their consoles, most Americans have never bothered to find RGB solutions for their consoles, as our TVs did not have RGB inputs. At that time, the only way to use RGB in the US would have been through an RGB monitor, which would have been very expensive. Many of those game consoles can now be found in good condition for a fraction of their original cost, and there is even new equipment that will allow you to display RGB signals on newer TVs.
